HISTORIC & CULTURAL CLASSICS AUCTION
Lot 28:
A sword bayonet for the M1866 Chassepot rifle, made in France, manufactured in the 1860’s/1870’s. Likely made by St. Etienne. Many of these bayonets and the rifles they were on were captured by the Germans after the Franco-Prussian war and had the French maker markings removed. The bayonet is in great condition for its age. Comes held in the original metal scabbard with matching serial numbers to the bayonet. Total length of the sword in the scabbard is 28″.
