A photograph taken by master photographer, Don Kirby. Negative taken in 1984 and printed in 1990. Professionally matted and hand-signed by Kirby. Measures in matting, 13” H x 16” W. The son of a sharecropper in northwestern Missouri, Mr. Kirby grew up turning the surface of the earth upside down. A half century later, he has emerged as the preeminent photographer of the Plains in the Midwest; and the landscape of the Southwest. A master of both his medium and chosen subject matter, Kirby’s sweeping, geometric photographs of wheatfields in the American Northwest manage to convey both a sense of wonder and a deep understanding of the land, our dependence on it for our survival, and its own survival of the uses and abuses we impose upon it. A monograph of Don Kirby’s work WHEATCOUNTRY was published by Nazraelli Press. Mr. Kirby’s photographs have been exhibited and collected throughout the United States.
