Lot 82:
A set of two iconic mid-century modern swivel chairs designed by Arthur Umanoff (1923-1985), a Pratt and American School of Design graduate. Umanoff was a fabulous and prolific mid-century modern and modern designer during the mid-late 20th century. Some of the companies he designed for include Shaver Howard, Washington Woodcraft, Howard Miller, Contemporary Shells, Cavalier Corporation, and Arleigh to name just a few. His designs are widely sought after today. Only one chair in this lot contains the original Madison Furniture maker label underneath. One of the chairs also has a screw in one armrest shown in photos. Arthur Umanoff designed for Madison Furniture from 1962 until sometime after 1973. In 1966, the company merged with Shelby Williams Industries. We are offering six pairs of these chairs in this auction and they all have misc. wear. Please see photos for condition. Each chair measures 35” H x 24.5” W x 19” D.
