“Niles Canyon” original oil on board by listed artist, Ethel Grau. Housed in a wooden frame and signed lower left. Measures in frame, 24” H x 30” W. on board. Grau studied at the California School of Fine Arts, California College of Arts and Crafts, San Jose State College, University of California Extension, and with George Post and Charles Horton. A longtime resident of Fremont, California and the widow of Dr. Eugene Grau, she died on July 26, 1988. Her work consists mainly of early California historical subjects. During her last years she painted a series of Mother Lode watercolors. Exhibited: San Francisco Art Ass’n; Hayward Art Ass’n; California Watercolor Society; Oakland Museum, 1949, 1951, 1958; Madonna Festival (Los Angeles), 1958; Livermore Art Ass’n, 1958 (solo). Works held: Washington Hospital (Fremont).
